Cakes are not only famous for their delicious taste. It is famous because it is part of a long standing tradition in celebrations. Every person knows what a cake is and at some point have tasted different kinds. Today, you can see more than one flavor on display. More than just a food, it is also a part of rituals that were performed by ancient tribes. The symbolism that it holds now has not faded. The cakes New Jersey and the ones that are manufactured in other places are still as meaningful as before. Before, it was just a simple dish with a simple and platonic shape. But as the world change and the methods of baking it improved, a lot of bakers obtained the courage to experiment not only in the flavor but in the shape as well.

There was a notion that during ancient times, this dish is only for those who can afford to buy the ingredients. The ingredients that are needed to bake it is very rare. And because of the developments that happened in the society, obtaining ingredients and making it have become more convenient.

One of the most intriguing fact about this recipe is that it has no exact origin. And the place where it was made first is not even clear. This is why, no particular person or race could take credit for the creation of this recipe.

One of the most known claim of origin came from Egypt. It is even said that ancient Egyptians used honey for the sweet flavor of the baked recipe. But is what is widely used nowadays is sugar. It is presumed that the Egyptians were tired of eating meat that they tried to discover something else that is worth eating.

The origin of the word cake came from the ancient Vikings kaka, a Norse word. Ever since the olden days, this dish already represents how special the person you are giving to it for you. The ingredients that were used before were not readily available that is why it is very expensive to make and only given to very special people. Much like what you do today except that it is not as costly.

One of the most notable use of the cake is for rituals. It was used by the Celtic people to determine if they would be lucky in the coming year or not. To know this, they would let the food role from the top of the hill downwards to see if it breaks or not. The name of this festivity is the Beltane Festival.

Cakes in weddings usually have layers. This was derived from the past tradition when guests would ring layers to the wedding. The number of friends the couple has would also be the number of layers present in the cake. It is also the depiction of how famous the newly weds are.

When railroads were constructed, it became easier for people to have the rare ingredients. This marked the decrease of the pricing for baking this food. The industrial revolution also ushered the change in mechanisms for baking and the invention of the baking powder.
