Getting The Right Blend Of Arizona Chili Spices

by Amanda Baird

There are numerous aspects to developing a good chili recipe. It is very versatile and people often develop their own recipes for meat, chicken or served with vegetables and kidney beans if they are vegetarian. However one of the key priorities is to ensure you get the right blend of Arizona chili spices in order to get a good balance between heat and flavour.

The first thing to consider is the level of heat. Some people like a lot and want the rush of heat. Other people prefer something with a mild kick but without burning their mouth. While this can be reasonably straightforward if you are serving for one or two people this can be a bit more complicated if you are serving for a larger group.

If you are concerned about how hot a pepper is the easiest way to tone it down is to remove the seeds before adding them to the mix. During cooking if it still tastes hot adding a bit of natural yoghurt can make it milder without compromising too much of the flavour.

Jalapenos are probably the most common addition. They can often make it look more presentable. If you are concerned with the heat you can deseed them or alternatively add some natural yoghurt in order to make your mixture a little cooler. What people often do not realise is that heat can be countered with some kind of milk or soy equivalent.

There are powders available that are ready made that can be instantly added to a mix. However it is important to check the list of ingredients before you purchase them and to get a guide to the level of heat. You do not want to unwittingly add an extra hot ingredient to a mild chili!

Ideally you want to develop your own mixture. This will give you a bit more control over the level of heat and the kind of flavours you add to the mix. It is often a matter of trial and error and eventually you can develop your own that you can add to your own individual taste or those of your guests.

The advantage of these is that you can often add the slices and put them into the mix. If you are looking to add a bit more heat a small birds eye pepper is ideal. For people who really want to push the upper limits of the tolerance of their tongue ghost peppers provide a massive burst of heat. However this ought to be used with caution!

After you have used a recipe and begin to become more confident you can develop your own blend of Arizona chili spices. Thankfully if you store them carefully you can access these flavourings at a later date. Look online for recipes and suggestions for spices to create your own recipe.
